It bothers me somewhat that there are probably thousands of kids in Houston who also need surgery they can't afford.

But overall, yes, a feel-good story.

Yeah probably , but if it isn't a little dummy doing thumbs up in front of a pile of naked Iraqis the news doesn't think we want to see it.

Does the media dictate what the public sees/hears/reads?

Or does the public dictate what the media shows/says/prints?

I don't think you'll ever find an absolute answer. Do certain media outlets have an agenda? Probably.

However, if you go to a barber-shop, everybody is gonna talk about the prison abuse, thumbs-up, etc. Talking about the surgery in Houston doesn't have the same appeal.

To a certain extent, humans are attracted to sex and violence. Can't blame the media for giving us what we want.

TFM,

IMO the media just tends to increase the majority that already exists. So if 60% of the population demands something, the media will provide it and at the same time they will exert influence so this number goes up to 70% or 80%. So when it eventually does get to 80% you could say that the first 60% is our fault and the other 20% is their fault.

Hey that's a good story. Always good to hear people promoting healing over killing.

But I'm confused by the Topic header. Isn't FOXnews one of, if not the most watched 'evening propoganda' stations?

So aren't we then seeing this story exactly where you infer it is not?

Dude, you gotta remember I smoke pot daily. Quit confusing me.

This story has been on CNN, Fox, and others. Sure, it would be helpul if more human interest stories make the "top story".
How about all the hard work/efforts by caring individuals in myriad of various efforts and projects in rebuilding Iraq?
Seems like we are at the mercy of the editors and executive producers when it comes to "good" news dissemination.
