When I was a kid I’d put a card under the front of my baseball cap to keep the emblem on the front sit erect. Yeah I’m old as dirt.
I was haunted by Mickey Mantle cards seemingly every time I opened a pack. I’d trade ten of them for one Carl Yastrzemski. Back in those days I’m convinced Topps sent cards of other teams to the opposite geographic location. I was from Boston and constantly got Cincinnati Reds. When, and if, you got someone on the Red Sox it was reason to celebrate. Much like someone getting a ’90 UpperDeck Griffey back in the day.
As everyone has said the real money is in the older issues of Topps, before 1981 when Fleer and Donruss joined the market and over saturated the industry.
Topps always issued cards in series as the season wore on. The last series, (or high numbers), will always be worth prime dollar. Especially in good condition for people trying to put sets together.
