I heard that it's better to do it every two days, that way your muscles can rest and grow better...... any opinions:think2:

Abs once a week is fine, it's all about cardio and diet that defines them

You only need to do abs once a week.

Bottom line is that having abs or at least seeing defined abs is 95% diet and cardio.

A common misconception many people have is that the more you train them the better results. That's completely false without proper nutrition and cardio.

That's the truth.
If you want abs for looks, you don't want them big and bulky. Once a week is enuf.

really, Once a week????

I agree it all depends on what you're looking for, and without a good diet it really doesn't matter...

really if you want your abs to show, eating right and cardio is just as important. You want your bodyfat to be down in the single digits.

I know people who do abs everyday. Personally I do it twice a week. They are muscles so they do need to rest.

Another thing to remember Don is that abs are used more often than you may think as ancillary muscles while doing other exercises.

Isn't it the same as working your triceps or something like that, I mean, you don't work a same area every day, unless your conditioning.....

I guess what I was trying to say is that when you squat or do a leg press you are using your abs as well therefore its not necessary to do it as often as you thought. One or two times a week is plenty.

Stand up ab exercises (wood chops e.g) are just as effective as sit down. I say rotate at the end of every workout.

I do cable crunches. Grab the cable over your head while kneeling (laugh laugh), then bring your elbows to the ground in front of you. Weighted crunches = better than regular crunches.

Abs are a muscle, just like every other part of your body. And rest is just as important as exercise. In fact, not giving your body proper rest could be counterproductive.

The ideal resting period for a muscle is 48-72 hours from the moment you stop tearing it/working it out - depending on the size of the muscle group.

Large muscle groups like pecs/chest, or quads need 72 hours rest:

Work chest on a Mondays and Thursdays.

Small muscle groups needs 48 hours:

Work abs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

I personally do abs and cardio 3 times a week. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays.

What type of split do you use? I've got 3 different days; chest/shoulders/triceps, back/biceps, legs/abs.
