Friday Picks
IND +2.5
This is more of a hunch pick, as I just feel the Pacers are fired up to get a win that they have deserved for a while lately. Whether or not TJ Ford plays, I still think the Pacers can get a win at Madison Square Garden just fine, either way. They just seem due.
CHI +12.5
The Cavs shooting woes continue. I don't think they deserve spreads like this at the current moment, until they get their role players shooting lights out once again. Unless they find a way to get more points in the paint when LeBron doesn't have a open lane to drive, they will keep some of these easy games closer than they should. I wish the Cavs would play rookie PF J.J. Hickson some more, because that is exactly what they could use right now, which is an explosive inside scoring big man with serious strength and hops to go along with it.
Bulls aren't playing good, but look for Gordon, Rose, and Hughes to give the Cavs some fits... as backcourt D is still the Cavs slight weakpoint on defense.
ATL -4.5
Atlanta I think is building a bit of momentum, and should start to play better on the road as the season moves on. New Jersey is in a bit of a mess, their offense gets way too frustrated against good defenses, and it's seeming to be getting to their heads, and they end up forgetting even more about the other side of the floor. Until I start seeing signs of change for New Jersey, I think Atlanta will win the game, for sure.... along with having a very good chance of covering this moderate spread against this currently confused, New Jersey team.
DEN -8
Denver starting to get things back together.... Just don't see a real reason the Thunder can keep this close. Durant could play out of his mind, but even then, I think Carmelo can cancel him out with ease. Denver should continue to be a solid road team all year, and I think that starts with Billups, a pg who can lead and settle his team down on the road extremely well.
SAN -7.5
Losing to a team like the Bucks is nothing to be too ashamed of. Bucks can play at a high level at times, and they did so against the the Spurs. The Spurs still feel ashamed of it, and a team like Memphis, that they also had trouble finishing out down the stretch recently..... I think the timing just feels right, for the Spurs to wake up tonight. Taking out frustration, from both the Spurs game against the Bucks, and the Grizzlies double overtime slop fest. That's two solid reasons for the Spurs to come out blazing tonight at Memphis.
