Here is my 1st 10* of the year.
10* Ole Miss -3
Where do you play a guy who benches 400 and runs a 4.4? If you're Ole Miss, you put him at QB and call him Michael Spurlock. Spurlock can run with the WRs and lift with the LBs. Not only that, Michael has a stronger arm than Eli. He also has Eli's top-notch group of WRs and the best OL in the SEC. Jr RB Vashon Pearson is ready to live up to his considerable potential, while backup RB Alan Abrams will make a name for himself as a freshman. The Rebel offense should have no problem putting up points against a Memphis defense that returns only one starter to their front 7.
Speaking of fronts, Ole Miss has only one returning starter themselves, DT Daniel Booth, only he's out for this game with an injury. No problem -- Ole Miss has defensive depth like never before. They have 5 DTs who are practically interchangable. DE Jayme Mitchell at 6-6 and 270 will wreak havoc on QBs. DT McKinley Boykin is a bigger, stronger, quicker, more talented version of last year's star Jessie Mitchell. DT Chris Herring at 310 throws OLs around. Soph Patrick Willis is a budding star at LB. The secondary is deep and talented. They'll be far from the injury plagued group Memphis and Texas Tech tore up last year.
I am aware that Memphis has it's best team in years. DeAngelo Williams is a RB that Ole Miss wanted badly. Albert Means is finally realizing his potential at DT. Danny Wimprine is a winner at QB and he has his top WRs back. However, Memphis does not have the overall talent that Ole Miss has. Ole Miss is at home and they are totally focused on this game. They don't lose to the Tigers often, and they want revenge badly. This should be a high-scoring affair with the Rebels winning by at least 10.
7* UNLV +21
Don't see how this spread even made the books. Tennessee playing freshman QBs in their 1st game and have not proven they belong with the Vol teams of old. UNLV is talented and experienced. This will be closer than most expect. No way Tennessee wins by 3 TDs. Might win by 10.
