A 'highly pathogenic strain' of H5N1 bird flu has been reported in China's Hunan province

A "highly pathogenic" strain of the H5N1 bird flu has been reported in China's Hunan province, Chinese officials said, according to a Saturday report from Reuters.

The outbreak was reported on a farm in the city of Shaoyang in the Hunan province, according to China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Of the 7,850 chickens on the farm where the outbreak occurred, 4,500 died of the H5N1 avian flu, Reuters reported.

The Chinese government said it culled 17,828 chickens as a result of the H5N1 outbreak, per Reuters.

Per the United States Geological Survey, the bird flu is deemed "high pathogenic" based on its ability to kill birds.

"The designation of low or highly pathogenic avian influenza refers to the potential for these viruses to kill chickens," the USGS website says. "The designation of "low pathogenic" or "highly pathogenic" does not refer to how infectious the viruses may be to humans, other mammals, or other species of birds."

The USGS noted, however, that most strains of the bird flu are not highly pathogenic and cause "few signs of disease in infected wild birds."

"However, in poultry, some low-pathogenic strains can mutate into highly pathogenic avian influenza strains that cause a contagious and severe illness among poultry and sometimes wild birds, and often death," the USGS added.

According to the World Health Organization, while H5N1 can be transmitted to humans, typically through contact with dead birds or a contaminated environment, it is rare in humans.

"The virus does not infect humans easily, and spread from person to person appears to be unusual," the WHO said. "There is no evidence that the disease can be spread to people through properly prepared and thoroughly cooked food." The mortality rate in humans is 60%, the WHO added.

The news comes as the Wuhan coronavirus, which is believed to have originated from a bat in the Hubei province, which is North of Hunan, continues to spread throughout the country and has caused more than 259 human deaths and infected around 12,000 people.

And all this time it's Muslims we've been concerned with entering the country face)(*^% ^<<^

What are the rates that Muslims and Illegals are killing us off compared to that of the common flu? ;)

Also is it just me, or does Trump look at Dr. Fauci like the wheels are turning for what kind of short nickname he is planning for him in the future.

We have to refuse anyone who either traveled to China or is from China to enter this country for 1 year, period. No exceptions. Any US citizen who wants to leave the US to travel to China can do so but they can't re-enter the country for one year.

The Chinese have terrible hygiene and food practices, smoke cigs at an alarming rate, have horrible air quality, and now live on top of each other with 66 cities that have more than >1M people. USA has fantastic hygiene, the cleanest food/water in the Americas, drastically reduced cig use, excellent air quality and only 10 cities with >1M people

yet China has just 80k reported infected out of 1.4B people, with 3k dead, and the MSM wants to make you believe the USA should brace for 150M infected (nearly 1 out of every 2 Americans) and about 2M dead? This all makes sense, eh?

forgot to end my mini rant...

the only way any of these projections makes sense is if the group that engineered the virus made it especially great at mutating several times over. If this is all "first wave" of Covid and then it mutates then the "second wave" and all future waves make the current martial law, and insane infection/death projections, make sense.

most pandemics, like ebola zaire and avian flu, show the mutated waves as being far more contagious and lethal. even in our seasonal influenza the vaccine is only effective in average 30% (was better this year, 45%) of the time but the mutated 2nd wave is <10% effective with the vaccine you took.

true. guessing skid row in LA or most of downtown SF doesn't look all that different from Wuhan except for population since Wuhan is 11M

No it doesn’t make sense. If it ends and slows here it will be we tanked and panicked the economy for this or will be twisted to “what we did limited the outbreak”. It’s just an odd scenario effecting different parts of the country where it’s lock down for some and business as usual for others

So that sentence sets your mind at ease? These viruses are constantly mutating, just like when Coronavirus jumped from animal to human - sleeping time bombs all across Asia.
