Costa Rican Drug Control Police in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) confiscated a total 600 kilograms of cocaine in an operation carried out at open sea in waters of the Costa Rican Pacific.
A US Coast Guard Service intercepted a boat with five people aboard and carrying 30 packets of drugs. After coordinating with Costa Rican authorities, the US agents arrived at Golfito, where the Drug Control Police confirmed a total of 600 kilograms of cocaine.
The five people arrested were identified as a man of last names López Gómez, Costa Rican, 30 years-old with prior criminal record for murder; another Costa Rican of surnames López Alvarez, 49, also with criminal record for sexual abuse against a minor; the other three men are Colombians of last names Minia Quintero, 19, Reina Estupiñan, 24, and Arroyo Portocarrero 32-years of age.
The vessel has the name ¨Cool Runnings X¨ is 30 ft and had a 200 hp engine, it appears registered in name of a 31-year-old man of last name Ruiz who had a record for five causes of aggravated robbery, violations to the wildlife protection law, violations to the fishing and hunting law, and carrying of illegal weapon.
