Well im going to put my name with my pick. I've spent quite some time looking at this from many angles. I'm no pro, but please - let's all make some money - and if we don't let me be the poll bearer and i'll take the blame.
OldmanTed - i am with you on your picks, but i have to say that in my opinion the strongest play for this game lies in the 1Half @ -6.5.
Here are some staggering numbers. The 49ers on average score approximately 5.2 points per 1st half this year. With the highest ouput being at 17. They have been shutout twice, and been held to under a touchdown in the other two games.
Breaking that down even further the game in which they scored 17 pts in the first half was with Ken Dorsey at the helm. Which can almost throw the 17 point stat out of the equation - thus making the average lower
Tomorrow we have Tim Rattay - who so far this year in 4 games (four first halves, has led his 49ers to a total of 9 points on three fieldgoals.)
On the flipside the 49ers defense has given up on average 20.2 points in 5 games. And those numbers are with Peterson, Ulbrich, Rumph (was hurt in the 2nd half vs the Rams), Plummer, and off and on again Carter.
They have yet to give up LESS than 14 points in the first half.
That alone speaks for itself. This would be a STRONG play.
The Jets score on average 13 per half. The Jets defense also gives up 6.5 points for the first half. This ties in perfectly with the fact that the niners if not shut out - can't hit the touchdown in the first half.
The 9ers seem to adjust really well at half time - and usually backdoor cover the majority of their games. Unfortunately there is no way to for them to do so in the first - as they are usually knocked around out of the gates.
If you can find my reasonings wrong - then please post why, im always looking to gain knowledge from the seasoned veterans.
here's my wager
*4 JETS -6.5 FIRST HALF
ranking 1-5 with one being weakest but playable, and 5 being strong and unavoidable.
WEATHER was forecasted as Rain tonigh - but partly sunny and mid to low 50's tomorrow with slight winds.
