Giants sign veteran free agents James Robinson, Cole Beasley.

The New York Giants have signed running back James Robinson and wide receiver Cole Beasley, it was announced Friday.
Robinson, who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets last season, agreed to a two-year deal with the New England Patriots in March, but the veteran was released after the first day of mandatory minicamp in June.
The Giants and starting running back Saquon Barkley are at a stalemate over a long-term contract, with Barkley saying earlier this week that he "might have to" sit out the 2023 season.
Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell also will be competing for time in the Giants' backfield, with fifth-round rookie Eric Gray also in the mix.
Robinson had his greatest success as an undrafted free agent in 2020, rushing for 1,070 yards and scoring 10 total touchdowns in his debut season with the Jaguars.
He was traded to the Jets midway through last season but played in only four games, rushing for 85 yards and recording one touchdown reception.
In three NFL seasons, Robinson has rushed for 2,262 yards and scored 23 total touchdowns.
The 34-year-old Beasley reunites with Giants coach Brian Daboll, his former offensive coordinator in Buffalo.
Beasley, who split last season with the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, also returns to the NFC East after playing his first seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys from 2012-18.
He caught six passes in four games during the 2022 season.
Beasley has 556 catches for 5,744 yards and 34 TDs in 153 career games.

Broncos' Eyioma Uwazurike suspended for betting on NFL games.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL's policy on gambling, the league announced Monday.
He bet on games during the 2022 season, according to the league's statement.
Uwazurike, a fourth-round pick by the Broncos in the 2022 draft, will be eligible to petition for reinstatement no earlier than July 24, 2024, according to the NFL. Uwazurike, who had the opportunity to push for more playing time this season than he had as a rookie, played in eight games last season with 165 snaps on defense.
The Broncos said in a statement: "We were informed by the NFL [Monday] that Eyioma Uwazurike has been suspended by the league indefinitely for violating its gambling policy. Our organization fully cooperated with this investigation and takes matters pertaining to the integrity of the game very seriously.''
Three NFL players were suspended indefinitely last month for violating the gambling policy: Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry of the Indianapolis Colts and free agent Demetrius Taylor. Tennessee Titans tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was suspended in June for six games.
Earlier this year, four Detroit Lions players and one Washington Commanders player were suspended for violating the league's gambling policy. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who was traded by the Atlanta Falcons to the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this year, was suspended for all of the 2022 season for violating the policy.
During the Broncos' offseason program, coach Sean Payton was asked about the team's efforts to make players aware and understand the league's gambling policy.
"We got a packet from the league," he said at the time. "Obviously, when policies change, it's our job to educate [the players]. [Vice president of football operations and compliance] Mark Thewes was awesome. We're professional teachers. The packet we received, we looked at, studied [it] closely and then we presented it in our own PowerPoint. I probably had 20 minutes on it to really make sure everyone has it.
"If you're a teacher and half your class gets a D, you better look at yourself. It's not the policy, but it's the implementation, the understanding, and the educating of the policy. I presented a week and a half ago, and now someone officially will present [it]. Hopefully it won't be from that eight-page handout we received because that was more confusing after I read it than it was before I looked at it. I think we're all on the same page.''
NFL officials have said the league plans to reinforce its gambling policy to players. All rookies are required to attend mandatory education sessions and a group of league officials is making in-person visits to team facilities to emphasize and clarify what activities are prohibited.
The policy prohibits players from betting on the NFL; gambling at a team's facility, including its hotel during road trips; from having others make bets for them; from entering a sportsbook facility; and from playing daily fantasy football.

Bills RB Nyheim Hines (knee) expected to miss season.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Bills have lost a key special teams and offensive player before training camp even gets started. Running back Nyheim Hines suffered what is expected to be a season-ending injury to his left ACL while away from the team's facility, a source said.
Hines, 26, sustained the knee injury when he was struck by a jet ski and will at some point require surgery, according to ESPN and multiple reports. He was sitting on a stationary jet ski when he was struck, per ESPN and multiple reports.
Hines suffered no life-threatening injuries, such as to his liver or kidney, according to the source. The expectation and goal will be for him to return to football for the 2024 season.
It was not immediately known when and where Hines was hurt.
Hines was set to go into camp as the team's primary kick and punt returner and compete for opportunities at running back with Damien Harris and Latavius Murray, who were both acquired this offseason. The Bills traded with the Colts for Hines at the deadline last year in exchange for running back Zack Moss and what turned into a fifth-round pick.
During the 2022 season, Hines was rarely used on offense, finishing with 13 total touches.
"I think it will be easier in an offseason to get in the whole playbook, get the feel," general manager Brandon Beane said of Hines' lack of touches at the end of last year. "You kind of install a lot more things than you do in season. So, yeah, I mean, in a perfect world, would have loved to get him more touches and hopefully that will happen next season."
He had 16 punt returns and 19 kick returns in the regular season. Two of those returns will be remembered for a long time in Bills history, with Hines returning two kickoffs for touchdowns against the New England Patriots in the final game of the regular season and the first since Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest in Cincinnati. Wide receiver Deonte Harty is in line for the returner job, while Khalil Shakir also has some experience.
The running back room was revamped this offseason, with second-year back James Cook set to get an increased role as the previous leading back, Devin Singletary, is now with the Houston Texans. Without Hines, the options behind Cook, with Harris and Murray, are bigger backs outside of undrafted free agent Jordan Mims, who could now get more of an opportunity in camp. It would not be a surprise to see the team add to the group with Hines' injury, as there are now only four backs on the roster for camp, especially one with pass-catching abilities.
Veterans are reporting to camp Tuesday, with the first practice set for Wednesday at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York.
Hines' contract was restructured this offseason to reduce his cap hit this year from $4.79 million to $3.5 million, saving the team about $1.3 million. In the restructure, he also received a $1 million signing bonus, spread out over this year and next, with a total of $2 million guaranteed on his contract.
Hines' injury was first reported by the NFL Network.

Raiders sign three-time Pro Bowl CB Marcus Peters.

HENDERSON, Nev. -- The Las Vegas Raiders signed three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters on Monday to help upgrade the team's secondary.
Terms were not disclosed but, according to multiple reports, Peters received a one-year deal.
The 30-year-old Peters, a seven-year veteran who missed the 2021 season with a torn ACL, was a free agent for the first time and is coming off a career-low one interception last season for the Baltimore Ravens. But his 32 career picks are 26 more than the rest of the Raiders' cornerbacks combined.
The Raiders' six interceptions as a team last year were tied for the NFL low and only two picks came from a cornerback -- backup Amik Robertson. Las Vegas was also last in the NFL in interceptions in 2021 with six.
