I mostly only hear the ghetto population of Chicago refer to it that way. Cops don't care if these clowns shoot each other, they stay out of harms way. Spend a lot of time there and have never felt unsafe...but i know where not to go

I'm not blaming the cops though. I would step aside if I were them, too. And crime rates are always higher in poor and low income areas across the country, and probably 90% of them are drug related.

It's hard to blame the cops in all of this. Although I think if they relax the restrictions a little and let the cops do more stop and frisk on these potential criminals, it would get a lot more guns off the street. In NYC murders are down, but shootings are up. It's just lucky that most of these idiots are bad shots. This is almost all drug related, and that tired old turf wars problem that has been going on since the civil rights movement. If the pimp on the street has a problem with somebody moving in on his territory or settle up a debt with a John, he can't call the police about it. They take care of it themselves, along with Smith & Wesson. I still think if they ever legalized drugs it would turn the drug/gang world upside down. They might actually have to go out and get jobs. I don't think there is any easy answer for this. Maybe having planes fly over all of the impoverished hoods and dropping free Plan B pills might be a good start.

Heck of a Friday night in Chicago

[h=1]At least 2 dead, 18 wounded in city shootings[/h]
At least two men have been killed and 18 other people wounded in shootings in Chicago this evening.

Note: You can not legally purchase a firearm in the city of Chicago, there are no gun stores.

The is no correlation, none at all, between strict firearms laws and gun crime.

I'm starting to think if guns weren't available, the crazies in Chicago would use slingshots & knives to kill/wound each other.......

With the old 60's gangs they used to do their business with knives. But it made drive-bys a pain in the ass! The weapon of choice for gangbangers will always be handguns since they can be concealed much easier than a AK-47.

Im not american so Im not sure how the system works in Chicago, can somebody enlighten, you cannot purchase a firearm in the city of Chicago, if you go outside of Chicago or even out of the state and buy one and bring it back into Illinois and Chicago specfically, is there anything preventing people from doing this?

Not a DAMN Thing. That's the problem with not having much stronger Federal Rules.

It's the Federal Judge that shot down Chicago gun sale ban back in January.

thats what I thought, I often hear the gun side speak of Chicagos laws as a failure but its not much of an experiment if a short drive is a loop hole to the law, for the laws to have any real bite theyd need to be federal as you said. Going city by city is just setting up for failure.

And the city I live in has 90% of it's murders on the south side even though the north side also has probably close to 90% gun ownership in it's neighborhoods. The problem is a combination of social/cultural differences and WAY too many handguns on the street. Literally on the street. They need to keep these damn guns at home, and stop looking for the next gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

How about the top 8 FZ? How many were killed over the 4th of July weekend in those states? Don't pick and choose now. Tell the full story.

#8 Rhode Island.......the Capital City of Providence is like a shooting gallery.

Get rid of guns and people will still find ways to kill other people.

Then we should follow up by getting rid of the following things after guns:

Uhauls/Box Trucks
Fertilizer
Fire
Gas
Anything toxic or poisonous
Vehicles that have the power to run over several people
Anything combustible

Can add more when I think of them.

This way there will be no more mass killings....

I just watched the movie "The Purge" & was thinking of all the killings in Chicago........that movie is so out of wack. Society could never handle 1 day a year anything goes for 12 hours & the next day everything is back to normal.

On April 9th of this year, a kid walked into Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, PA and stabbed 25 people. Not one of the kids died. What would have happened had he had a gun? As stated earlier, in 2012, England and Wales had a combined 550 murders total. What would that number be had they had access to guns? Simply look at the U.S. numbers and you'll have your answer.

The poster who replied to you quite literally has no idea what she's saying. None. It would be the same as asking a 2nd grader to explain jet propulsion and the engineering and physics which enable an airplane to fly.

Anyway, there are more than 22,000 pages of federal laws and regulations governing the manufacture, distribution and sale of firearms. For starters, see 18 U.S.C. § 922 (b) through (d)

And what people never seem to grasp, is that the areas surrounding Chicago, areas where there are actually gun stores, have lower gun crime rates. There is no correlation, none, between stricter firearms laws and gun crime.

Firearms sales are subject to state jurisdiction. If you are a resident of Illinois and purchase a gun from someone out of state, you will need to go to an FFL to have a background check run in order to complete the sale.

See:
A person not licensed under the <abbr style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; speak: spell-out;">GCA</abbr> and not prohibited from acquiring firearms may purchase a firearm from an out-of-State source and obtain the firearm if an arrangement is made with a licensed dealer in the purchaser’s State of residence for the purchaser to obtain the firearm from the dealer.
[18 <abbr style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit; speak: spell-out;">U.S.C.</abbr> 922(a)(3) and 922(b)(3)]

From the ATF

Which is hardly "not a damn thing" as the laughably uninformed person who responded to you said.
