After a storied career fishing on numerous regional circuits out west he qualified for the BASSMASTER 150 tour through the BASSMASTER western opens & fished on various iterations of that tour including the BASSMASTER elite series from 1999 - 2018 & along the way he qualified for & competed in 20 BASSMASTER classics finishing in the top 10 nine times including 4 runner-up finishes . Aaron Martens won 9 BASSMASTER tournaments in his career with 3 of those wins on different waters in his home state of California along with wins in Alabama , Illinois , Arizona , Maryland & New York

During the years 2001 - 2006 Mr. Martens fished & competed on the FLW tour & qualified for the FOREST WOOD cup 3 times while winning tour events at wheeler lake ( 2003 ) &
In ( 2004 ) winning the Champlain event . Later on Mr. Martens fished the MAJOR LEAGUE FISHING ( MLF ) made - for - television events & left B.A.S.S to fish & compete on the BASS Pro Tour Circuit in 2019 .

Mr. Martens during his fishing career used & brought back-to-life several obscure lures from the 1970's including " scroungers " & " horsey - heads " ( underspins ) both of which became integral parts of most serious bass anglers arsenal both professional & recreational . ? He is best known for his prowess with & reliance on the drop - shot technique in which he had a strong hand in popularizing .Despite the fact that several of his career fishing achievements came from using power fishing techniques he was pigeon-holed as a finesse fisherman
