GOOD LUCK

2 Units on San Diego Chargers +2½ -110

24-4 SYSTEM: Since 1983, going AGAINST road teams like Jacksonville in a near "pick em" spot has COVERED at a shocking 24-4 clip as long as the visitor is a mistake-free team that commits 1-or-LESS turnovers per game. This system kicks into place if that visiting team like Jacksonville is coming off a game where they forced 1-or-LESS turnovers. My database actually has gone into "tilt" mode on this contest. Sinc 1980, all road favorites like Jacksonville, who were UNDERDOGS the previous 3 outings, are a dreadful 2-12 ATS against an opponent who is coming off an outright win. San Diego won going away 38-17 last week as Drew Brees, who is still trying to fight off Phillip Rivers, passed for 3 touchdowns against a quality Tennessee defense. Since Brees has looked decent for most of the season so far, things have opened up for the best running back in the league. LaDanian Tomlinson, who rambled for 147 yards last week, is #2 in NFL rushing with 415 total yards, right behind Curtis Martin of the Jets. What is shocking about the Chargers is the stellar play of the YOUNG offensive line and the kicking game (P Mike Scifries and K Nate Keading off to great starts). But the real big news is the San Diego DEFENSE which has been very stingy against the RUN, keeping the last 2 opponents UNDER 73 yards rushing. Last week, they kept Tennessee 79 yards BELOW their normal rushing average. Two weeks ago, the Chargers held Denver to their lowest rushing total (37) in TEN YEARS. This is all bad news for a conservative Jacksonville offense that depends heavily on the rushing of Fred Taylor. If Taylor is held down, too much pressure will be applied to QB Byron Leftwich, who made a ton of mistakes a year ago. Today marks only the FOURTH time ever that the Jags have traveled out to the west coast to play a game. Even though last year was a disaster for San Diego, they played the Jags tough in the state of Florida, losing a competitive 27-21 verdict. The Chargers are leaps and bounds better than a year ago. Note that Jacksonville has NOT scored a single point in the first quarter this year. That is GOOD news for a "slow starting" San Diego team that has played much better in the second half.
