EURO 2008

Israel vs Russia

My pick is Russia to win

30 units to win 17.40 units ( 1.58 at betfair ! )

I would recommend to get this early because the line will drop big time .

Russia has to win their next 2 games and they will qualify for the EURO 2008 . After this game they will play Andorra and I dont think it will be a problem to beat them .

With Benayoun out, Israel captain will now be Tal Ben-Haim, and we all know who signs his weekly pay-cheques at Chelsea
icon_biggrin.gif
... Abramovich also owns their best young striker Ben Sahar .

There will be a number of players from reigning Israeli Champion and current table-topper Beitar Jerusalem on the field (Gershon, Alberman, Baruchyan, Tamuz, etc.) ... and the owner of Beitar, also happens to be Russian (Arcadi Gaydamak), it's the the same family who owns Portsmouth FC in the EPL ... in another words, half of the Isreali team that will play against Russia, are actually on the pay-roll of Russians already .

Think of England? Israeli football has been too busy navel-gazing. The country has been shocked by a racism scandal involving Beitar Jerusalem, the league champions. In a recent match against Maccabi Haifa, some of their notoriously right-wing supporters chanted “Death to Arabs” during a minute’s silence to mark the twelfth anniversary of the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, the former Israeli Prime Minister, also cheering for Rabin’s killer.

It means that the Euro 2008 qualifier against Russia on Saturday has made little impression on the national consciousness, for all the talk in England. “People have been focusing on it [the scandal] to a very large extent. They haven’t given Russia much of a thought,” Ori Lewis, a Reuters correspondent based in Jerusalem, said.

That will change this week as the build-up begins in earnest. The match is not likely to be a sell-out, although it is hard to say for sure because Israelis tend to do things at the last minute. That Russia are the opponents adds spice because about a million Russian immigrants live in Israel – 15 per cent of the population.

That means that a large percentage of the crowd – as many as 20,000 people in the 45,000-capacity Ramat Gan Stadium, in Tel Aviv – will cheer on Guus Hiddink’s team. Including a few billionaires and millionaires making the trip from Moscow: the Israeli FA is creating a special corporate hospitality area to meet the demand for exclusive facilities fit for oligarchs.

Paying £500 a ticket, hundreds of rich and powerful figures will hobnob on Saturday. Arkadi Gaydamak, the Beitar owner and father of Alexandre, the Portsmouth owner, is one of several influential Russian business-men based in Israel.

It would be no surprise to see Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner and Russian football benefactor, in the stands alongside Avram Grant, the Chelsea first-team coach and former Israel manager, and Pini Zahavi, the “super-agent”, who is close to both. A joke doing the rounds is that Abramovich has been instructing Grant not to play Tal Ben Haim, the Israel captain, so he will not be match-fit.

It is not going to be easy for the Russians as it seems in first glance despite being superior and the better team compared to Israel.

1.Israel got draw vs England in Ramat Gan,it is is very hard to beat Israel there and not many teams have done so in the last 4-5 years ,among the ones who failed to do so other than England count France too.
2.The fact that many business and soccer key people going to be in the stadium might be an incentive for Israeli players to seek good performance and hope for some invitation later for test, new agent and gate away playing abroad.
3.Losing chance to qualify might get opposite impact on the Israeli team, playing without any stress or any goals to meet, could get the best out of them considering this just as a friendly match, with one difference, full stadium and many inspecting eyes around.
4.Since 2000 these two teams met 5 times,Israel won twice, once in Russia and another time in Israel, tied twice and lost once in Moscow.
5.Yossi Benayoun the Israeli captain will miss this match, however when it comes to being productive, current coach has not made the most out of him as did the previous coach (Grant),on the other hand New young striker Maor Buzaglo who scored vs Germany and North Ireland in Young national Israeli team draw 2-2 with Germany and 3-1 victory in North Ireland expected to be playing this weekend as well as having Roberto Culautti Back in the attack, best Current Israeli striker who scored vs CSKA last season and helped Maccabi Haifa beat the Russian team in Uefa who plays now in Germany in 2nd League for Borussia monshengladbach.Israeli goal keeper Awat who plays in Spain is back too for this match.

Russia is the favorite, they did dominate also in Russia, yet didn't win, they will get some support from local fans ,russian immigrants expected to come to see them, but all in all it is not a banker and Israel might get an upset here,Russia was always considered as a challange for Israelies given they supported the Arabs for decades in the Israeli-Arab conflict as well as the image of Golaiath vs David.

Draw is a possible outcome and Israel probably will try and do their best to help England to qualify as well.

Personally i lean to bet on the Russians too,but won't advise going higher than you would on any other event, there is always first time for anything and in Ramat Gan anything is possible.

One more point in favour of Russian success is the fact their Dutch coach Guss Hiddink never failed bringing any national team under his supervision to qualify to final stages of major events such as world cup or euro, however there is always chance for the first time to happen and given the Russian record vs Israel since 2000 1w 2D 2L.The fact that even with dominating the first leg of this match they did not win in Russia and being on the road ,odds of 1.55 +/- have not much of value imo to hammer this game.

This game doesnt mean anything to Israel anymore and whats with your help England argument ? Didnt you read my post where I said that like 8 players from Israel team are paid by russians . I doubt they would worry about England in this situation because they might not play in their clubs anymore if Russia doesnt win here .

As I can see you probably didnt read my post at all my friend .

Half of the people will cheer for Russia and maybe even more .

HEH ? I think it is the other way around . Why would they want to beat russian team and risk losing their job in their clubs ?

I am not trying to convince you,you took the wrong bet here, however i gave you some points to chew on.lack of interest because losing chance to qualify does NOT mean letting the Russian win here,on the Contrary as i told you ,Israeli players always have extra incentive/challange playing vs Russia for the reasons mentioned above.top this with the fact that except Croetia no one won in Israel the last 5-6 years and no pressure on the Israeli side might get them to play even better than if they had a chance to qualify and were under pressure to succeed.the linkage that you trying to present between payroll and letting Russia succeed is just a silly theory which has no legs or hands what so ever and is not a factor here.Israel will do their best to help England, whether it will be enough or not time will tell.they are certainly not the favorites here but with stress free they might get a draw here and 1.58 has no value under the circumstances i mentioned to hammer this game more than any other event.it seems to me you are just chasing your bad record and believe this will get you into the positive.

I wish you all the best achieving that, but without posting conspiracy and silly theories to justify your wager.

we will find out in 4 days

Best of luck there,as i said i lean to bet on the Russian side too,my critics mostly is over theories which has no real base and the fact you considered this a banker to hammer which might mislead others, after all
it is not a real science and we all gamble here and just play with probabilities.

I'd be careful with this one, I don't know how your bankroll is but 30 units, damn you must be confident, a max bet for me is 5 units! =P
Russia really doesn't play well against Israel, and big teams have found that Israel is a tough place to play at as well. Plus, I'm pretty sure they'll have motivation (We've all seen that these motivation theories don't necessarily hold, once these guys get on the pitch they will try their asses off), I wouldn't be surprised if England offers the Israeli players a nice bonus to try extra hard to hold the Russians off. I'm on Israel so at least one of us will win! =)

So why you talk jack to me when I say they wont try their best in this match and come in here with a comment like this . How you wanna prove there are no fixed matches in Israel ? :think2:

No,I don't have solid proof for anything but reading your belief that Israeli players will not play their best is pathetic, just show you think everywhere has same standards you got perhaps in your own country.

just play russia...no matter what the reason is.Football is all about motivation and we have one team with the highest motivation you can get and the other with nothing to play for.it s no show contest like maybe in NBA where you start to make 3 pointers from everywhere when you are not under pressure. keep the units within your limits, but russia is the play here.
