The New York Jets go for their third straight win this afternoon when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Jets got off to a horrible 0-4 start but have won their last two games and shown signs of returning to the kind of form that saw them win 8 of their last 11 games last season. They have improved their running game immensely the last two weeks gaining a total of 254 yards on the ground and veteran Curtis Martin was solid last week with 88 yards on just 17 carries.
Today they will start veteran QB Vinny Testaverde before welcoming back Chad Pennington who is yet to play this season following a dislocated left wrist. Pennington led the NFL with a 104.2 passer-rating last season as the Jets won the AFC East.
The Jets lead the league with 21 sacks so expect them to be able to pressure struggling Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. Philly gave up three sacks last week and rank 14th overall having allowed 21 this season. Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis has a sack in every game this year and leads the league with a total of eight.
The Eagles were fortunate to win last week when they scored a late TD on a kick return. They are struggling mightily on offense ranking third-last in scoring (15.8 ppg) and last in total offense and yards passing. Philly are averaging just 3.5 yards per pass this season against teams that allow 5.4 yards per pass.
There are still a lot of question marks over QB Donovan McNabb's fitness and the three-time Pro Bowl selection has the lowest rating (51.1) and lowest completion percentage (47.9) in the league. Last week against the Giants he was just 9-of-23 for just 64 yards, one interception and a miserable career-low 29.1 QB rating. Philadelphia are the only team in the league without a touchdown from any of their wide receivers. In fact last week they caught just one pass and dropped five.
The Eagles are 0-3 ATS at home this season.
The Jets are 6-1 in the last seven meetings and we expect that to continue today.
