the reason NBA is a great game to bet on is because it is the only team sport where 99 times out of a 100 (my numbers, but read on . . .) the team that "plays better" actually wins the game.
in football, you can "outplay" a team but get burned by turnovers, in hockey you can "outplay" a team but run into a hot goalie, in baseball you can "outplay" a team but lose because you "left a lot of guys on base where the other team happened to hit a random homer or two."
since it's so easy to score in basketball, the way you define "playing better" than another team, really, is points. or shooting percentage. so you play better, you win.

I COULD NOT AGREE MORE, YOU ARE SO ACCURATE WITH THIS QUOTE ABOVE.............Can you start telling me which team will out play the other each night, because the spreads and lines sure do not dictacte it. And also if you see that "outplaying the other team effort on night 1, will you see night 2"

Nice point but you just sold the hell out of my point. The variable then would be "WILL LEON HUSTLE TONIGHT, WILL HE PLAY WELL ON THE ROAD, WILL HE PLAY WELL AFTER A ROAD TRIP, WILL HE PLAY WELL VERSUS HIS OLD TEAM, WILL HE PLAY WELL AFTER SEX, WILL HE PLAY WELL AFTER EATING HIS MOM'S HOME COOKING, WILL HE PLAY WELL AFTER A NIGHT ON THE TOWN"

so the variable you just described is the MYSTERY of the NBA, and it is why the game is down, because bad attitude, lack of hustle and heart are what is not as predicatable in this game as in others. Trust me there are football games both in college and in pro where these variables are EASY to predict. As well as college hoops. Look at ND tonight. I mean even a layman knew they would play hard tonight.

AT least you are getting your money's worth when you know the effort is coming. NEWPORT

newport, there are a million intagibles to everything -- walking ac**** the street, flipping the page of a newspaper.
i don't have a crystal ball, nor do you. duh.
outplay a team = win.
the above equation is more true for basketball than any other game. if you think that counts for nothing at all well then i can't help you dear bold writer.

I know you don't have a crystal ball, and you are right I do not either. Read the entir thread though. The Mercedes you see one night, is a Buick the next.

What many are saying the NBA is more VOLATILE, then other sports in this category. and YES these categories are PART of handicapping.

2 points in a F'n quarter in the NBA is unaccpetable in PRO sports, and we have has many 12 point quarters and under. That is a point a minute...unaccpetable. I know NBA has it's loyalists, and I am not taking that away.

You see my point now. I am with you, but look at the marginal difference is what I am referring to. gl

denver in my opinion

I think Houston plays real hard, though I know the majority are on SA. I like Memphis to follow up on the upset yesterday.

Just to my point though, many would think, and they are right mnay times, that Memphis will be exhausted,

well is Denver tired also? I guess one other point to make is when you have a sport like the NBA, and these are great athletes, playing multiple nights and traveling. the VOLATILITY of what you are going to get is there.

What if Randy Johnson or Schilling pitched every night???

dude, there's no such thing as "unacceptable" in sports. nothing's shocking. there are thousands of games played a year, these things happen. look at how long the bills' offence went without a touchdown, look at how long that phoenix goalie, what's-his-name, went without letting in a goal. and that's just this season. you play that many games, freakish stuff is gonna happen.
